Neck Tail

Neck tail is a food ingredient and early-game consumable dropped by necks, the small lizard-like creatures found near water. It is a common low-tier resource, with up to 4 neck tails dropping depending on the creature’s stars. As a raw item, it can be carried and used in cooking, but it is most often turned into a simple cooked meal.

When cooked on a cooking station or iron cooking station, Neck tail becomes Grilled Neck Tail. If it is left on the station too long, it will burn into coal. Grilled neck tail is a basic early food and is one of the first meals a player can prepare; it provides a small health bonus and is the least nourishing cooked meal. Once cooked, it cannot be used in any recipes that require Neck tail as an ingredient.

Neck tail is also used in the cauldron to make two recipes: minced meat sauce and Mead Base: Poison Resistance. This makes it useful beyond simple survival food, since it contributes to both a core cooked meal and an important resist potion. The poison resistance mead base requires a combination of honey, thistle, Neck tail, and coal.

In addition to player use, Neck tail can be used as wolf food, which makes it helpful for taming and maintaining a wolf pack. This gives the item a practical role even after better foods become available, since it remains a convenient animal feed and a recipe ingredient.
