Neck

Overview
Necks are small hostile creatures found near shorelines and other watery areas in Valheim. They are often seen around ponds, beaches, and marshy ground, and during rainy weather they may wander farther inland than usual. In appearance they are described as lizard-like, but they also resemble frogs because of the lily-pad-like growths on their bodies and their habit of lingering in swampy water. Their mythological inspiration is a humanoid water spirit, which fits their association with lakes, rivers, and coasts.
A Neck attacks by running up to a player and biting, then briefly retreating before repeating the assault. Its bite uses a short, horizontally arched hitbox and deals 6 Slash damage. The attack can be used every 4 seconds when the Neck is close enough to a target. Like other low-level wildlife, they are dangerous mainly in groups or when encountered early in the game without proper gear.
Fire is an effective deterrent. Necks are afraid of fire and will flee from players carrying a
Practical notes:
- Necks spawn most commonly near shorelines, but rainy weather can push them farther inland.
- Their bite is short-ranged, so stepping back and controlling spacing makes them easier to handle.
- They are vulnerable to fire intimidation and will run from a Torch.
- Because they can damage or eat crops, they should be kept away from farms built close to the water.
- They are amphibious and can move both on land and in water, so terrain alone does not fully prevent them from reaching a player.
Necks are one of the game’s more basic aggressive creatures, but they remain relevant throughout a playthrough because of their shoreline presence and their tendency to interfere with farming near water.
