Muckroot

Muckroot is an edible raw food item found in the Sandstone Biome and used in simple cooking recipes. It appears as buried roots or as part of supply drops and functions as a basic, high-calorie ingredient for duplicant feeding and some meal recipes. Muckroot is gathered directly from harvestable buried root tiles and can also be obtained by digging up buried debris blocks, which have a chance to yield the item.

Muckroot can also be acquired through critter interactions and supply containers. Delecta Voles yield a cluster of roots when sheared, dropping 8 Tonic Root per shear. Printing Pod and Mini-Pod supply packs occasionally contain 6 units (4,800 kcal) of Muckroot; in DLC play, these supply drops require either prior discovery of the item or surviving beyond 500 cycles to appear.

Muckroot is usable in the Gas Range to produce a simple cooked meal: 4 Tonic Root + 4 Nosh Bean = Curried Beans. Curried Beans provide a way to convert raw roots into prepared food for duplicants. Despite some in-game descriptions implying otherwise, neither raw Muckroot nor Curried Beans affect the Flatulent trait.

Practical notes and tips:

• Search Sandstone Biome islands and dig buried root deposits to stockpile Muckroot early in a run. Buried debris excavation can yield additional roots intermittently.
• Use shearing Delecta Voles as a renewable source of roots if those critters are available on your map.
• Reserve Gas Range usage for converting large batches (multiples of 4) to Curried Beans to maximize cooking efficiency.
• Supply pod drops can supplement early-game food reserves; the 6-unit pack is substantial at 4,800 kcal but may be gated by DLC discovery or cycle thresholds.
• Muckroot and its cooked forms are straightforward calorie sources; they do not provide special buffs and do not modify traits like Flatulent.
