Food Quality

Overview

Food Quality is a food attribute shown in the food list, alongside calories, shelf life, and ingredients. It is used to distinguish food items from one another in the database-style listing rather than as a separate craftable object.

In practice, Food Quality is one of the key fields for comparing edible items at a glance. The food list presents it together with per-kilogram calorie values and shelf life in cycles, making it easier to evaluate both how valuable a food is and how long it will last before rotting. Since food items now stack by rot percentage, this information is also useful when sorting or restacking large amounts of stored food.

When reading food-related UI screens, keep in mind that Food Quality is part of the item’s displayed food stats rather than a production building behavior. It is most relevant when checking which foods are worth storing, cooking, or using first, especially for items with short shelf life or varying preparation results.
