Overview

The Mimic is a disguised monster that appears as a treasure chest and attacks unsuspecting peglins when they attempt to open it. It behaves and looks like a real chest until the moment of revelation, making it especially dangerous to greedy or impatient players who grab chests without examining them. Defeating a Mimic can reward the player: it may drop an extra relic on the ground as a bonus.

Mimics are described in-game as preferring greedy peglins that leap into their toothy maw; patient peglins and other creatures learn to avoid suspicious chests. Because the Mimic’s disguise is convincing, encountering one changes the risk calculus of opening chests during runs and encourages caution around unfamiliar or newly spawned containers.

Practical notes and strategy:

  • Expect a chest-like entity to behave normally until it reveals itself, so avoid reflexively opening every chest you see, especially in uncertain situations.
  • Killing a Mimic can yield an extra relic. Prioritize survival and reliable removal of the threat if you want to claim that reward.
  • Patience and observation reduce the chance of being caught: deliberate peglins that scan or delay chest interactions are less likely to be eaten.
  • Mimics influence route and loot decisions; when low on health or mobility, treat chests as potential Mimics and use ranged or area control to defeat them safely before collecting rewards.
