Overview

Infernorb is a throwable orb item encountered during the Inferno event. Two Infernorbs appear bouncing and circling each other in the center of a ring of flame; the player can either grab them to obtain two Infernorbs or dash through the flames and leave them in place. The event text sometimes refers to them as "fireballs", but their in-game name is Infernorb.

Obtaining both Infernorbs immediately adds two throwable orbs to the player's inventory and inflicts self-damage for the act of collecting them. Historically the self-damage has changed across versions; in the Early Access release the self-damage was reduced to 2, and earlier builds in beta and demo had different values and behaviors. When used as projectiles, Infernorbs damage enemies and were changed in v0.7.48 to destroy enemy shields in a single hit. Beta versions introduced the property that thrown Infernorbs deal damage to the player as well.

Alternatively, the player can dash through the surrounding flames to avoid taking the larger collection penalty; dashing through the flames deals a smaller amount of health loss than grabbing the orbs but yields no Infernorbs.

Practical notes for play:

  • Grabbing the Infernorbs grants two throwable items at the cost of health; this can be worth it when you need additional damage or an immediate way to break shields.
  • Dashing through the flames costs less health and preserves current inventory when you do not want self-inflicted damage or already have sufficient throwables.
  • Use Infernorbs to bypass or destroy shielded enemies efficiently because they destroy shields in one hit as of v0.7.48.
  • Be aware of version-dependent behavior: older builds handled self-damage and friendly-fire differently, so expectations about collateral damage may vary with the game version.
