Overview
Iolite is an

Iolite can be found inside chests in Charred Fortresses. A separate unused creature with the internal ID Goblin_Gem exists in the game data and can be spawned with the console; it drops all three Ashlands gemstones, including Iolite.
Its primary use is weapon infusion. When a weapon is infused with Iolite, it gains 10 additional lightning damage and also gains a chance to trigger chain damage on both normal attacks and special attacks. Infusion has one important drawback: any weapon above level 1 is reset back to level 1 when the stone is applied, so players should plan upgrades carefully before using it.
Iolite is used in the crafting of several Black Forge level 4 weapons, including:
Because of its effect on weapon levels, Iolite is best saved for the final version of a weapon you intend to keep using. Applying it too early can waste upgrade investment, since the infusion overwrites the weapon’s current level.
