Overview

Peglin Sapper is an enemy found in the Mines area of Peglin. These are former Peglin adventurers warped by the mine's corruption into mindless suicide attackers that rush and detonate on or near targets. Lore entries state that adventurers who fall in the mines often become Sapppers, obeying a new leader and attacking anything commanded.

Sapper behavior centers on a self-destruct attack that deals very large damage at the cost of their own health and with collateral damage to nearby allies. They will approach and explode to maximize damage; if their explosion is blocked or dodged, the threat they pose is greatly reduced. The game files and multilingual descriptions recommend tanking or avoiding the blast, stacking armor on friendly units, or using phasing/illusion effects to prevent the detonation from triggering.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • The Sapper detonates on attack and can harm both the player and other enemies; positioning and timing of orbs matters to avoid friendly-fire or to bait clustered foes into the blast.
  • Defensive options such as increasing armor on vulnerable allies or employing abilities that create phantoms/illusions can negate or bypass the Sapper's self-destruction.
  • If multiple Sappers are allowed to pile up, they can be neutralized by their own explosions harming each other, so crowd-control and kiting are viable strategies.
  • Sappers can now be targeted by the Grabby Hand (as of v0.8.9). They were introduced in v0.7.42 and had attack/detonation behavior corrected in v0.7.45.
  • Visuals imply they carry "Sapper Sacks" as a weapon, though the exact weapon name is not formally confirmed in game data.

Sapper encounters require awareness of explosion radius and collateral damage; defeating them efficiently relies on either preventing their detonation or turning their suicidal tendency against clustered enemy forces.
