Overview

Ymir flesh is a purchasable item sold by Haldor for 120 coins. It is one of the rare merchant goods in Valheim and is primarily acquired as a crafting ingredient rather than through gathering or combat. Like the other special wares Haldor carries, it becomes available from the merchant’s inventory once the relevant game progression requirements are met.

Ymir flesh is used in the construction of two weapon recipes: Frostner and Iron Sledge. Because both are notable mid- to late-game tools, Ymir flesh is a progression-gated crafting material that players typically seek out after reaching the point where they can comfortably trade with Haldor and afford the purchase price.

  • It costs 120 coins per unit.
  • It is used to craft Frostner.
  • It is used to craft Iron sledge.
  • Before patch 0.213.4, it was only available for purchase after Bonemass had been defeated.

The name is a reference to Ymir from Norse mythology. In the Poetic Edda, Ymir’s body is used as the basis for the creation of the world, with his flesh specifically associated with the earth. This connection fits the item’s role as a mysterious, primordial crafting resource rather than a typical harvested material.

For players planning their purchases, Ymir flesh is best treated as a specialized investment. Since it only contributes to a small number of recipes, it is worth buying once you know you want one of those weapons, especially if you are saving coins for progression gear and do not want to miss the merchant’s limited stock.
