Kobanorb

Overview

Kobanorb is an orb type in Peglin that interacts with Coin Pegs by adding coins and, since v0.9.05, also by activating and popping them. The orb was introduced in v0.8.13 and takes its name from the koban, a small oval gold coin used in feudal Japan; the name reflects the orb’s coin-focused behavior.

Kobanorb places coins on eligible pegs it contacts. Because it does not add coins to pegs that already contain coins, Kobanorb is most effective on boards with many empty peg slots or when used late in a round after other coin-generating effects have already been resolved. After the v0.9.05 update, Kobanorb can both activate Coin Pegs (triggering their effects) and pop them, making it useful for direct coin generation as well as for triggering chain reactions that rely on coin activation.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Use Kobanorb on boards where most coin pegs are currently empty to maximize new coin placement instead of wasting potential on already-occupied coin pegs.
  • Since it activates and pops Coin Pegs as of v0.9.05, Kobanorb can be used to intentionally trigger coin-activation effects (for example, to detonate coin-linked mechanics or to collect coins immediately).
  • Consider sequencing: pairing Kobanorb with orbs or effects that clear or relocate pegs before its placement increases its usefulness, while using it after coin-adding orbs reduces overlap.
  • Kobanorb’s behavior is deterministic in that it won’t stack coins on the same peg; plan paths and bounces to reach multiple separate coin pegs when possible.
